Victoria Crane Operator Classes - Crane operator training is for supervisors and operators of overhead lifting machinery. The course is suitable for both new and current operators. Course content deals with relevant federal, provincial and state safety regulations. The training's first component includes comprehensive in-class instruction and examination. Following that is a customized hands-on session with practical lessons and evaluation.

Course content applies to all categories and types of overhead lifting machinery. Particular instruction will concentrate on aspects of crane operation utilized at the trainee's workplace. Upon completion of the course, trainees would learn how to operate specific overhead lifting equipment, attachments and related components efficiently and safely.

The operator course's objective is to first identify and potentially dangerous operator habits which might develop while an individual operates an overhead crane. Costly damage to products and equipment could be prevented with proper practices. Training reduces the possibility of a workplace incident or injury occurring.

The length of the course is eight hours of classroom instruction followed by a few hours of on-site, hands-on, customized training. Participants will be graded on their knowledge of training material through an evaluation of their practical knowledge and written tests. The minimum acceptable score is 80%.

In the in-class session, participants would learn applicable causes of damages and occurrences, legislation and guidelines, danger awareness, internal responsibility, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, design principles and basic equipment, safe hosting/operating techniques, pre-shift equipment inspections, kinds of hardware, equipment applications/rigging, angles and hitches, pedestrian/operator safety, flipping/turning loads safely, hand signals for slingers and operators.

The practical training and evaluation portion of the course must be pre-scheduled. This customized portion of the training will be held at the trainees' facility. The length of this practical training component is one to two hours. The instructor will train two operators at a time on skills such as proper rigging practices, safe operation and planning the lift.

After completing both the in-class instruction and the practical training and evaluation, the trainee will be tested via an exam. Each participant will be required to sign the safety rules. Trainees who are successful will be provided with individual wallet certificates. The company would be given a framed wall certificate.
